Fifty years ago some genius's in the Seoul government decided to pave over the Cheonggyecheon River (a medium sized river that flowed through Seoul). They did this to add a couple roads and an elevated highway that followed where the river went. The river was just recently uncovered as part of a Seoul beautification project and it actually worked a bit (Seoul is a big city!). The only problem is that after the river was paved over it pretty much dried up so now they have an elaborate 'start' to the river which is a few fountains and a large waterfall that constantly pumps water into the river to make it flow. This is a picture of the waterfall reflected in the plaque that tells the history of the river.
